Fred and Steve voices

I think Fred has a very interesting voice. His backing vocals are very charming and his lead vocals have style. Glass Hammer made me enjoy vocals. No other bands have such a great music and at the same time intense vocals.

The Song of the Dunadan is a track that kept my attention because of the voice. Yes Steve, you sing a big part on this one! After hearing the MP3 from the website I searched everywhere to get the album. It took me two month but I have it! It was my very first GH album.

For whatever reason, since the first time I heard walter, I always thought he sounded something like an elf. Something about the clarity and tone quality. I don't really have a particular favorite that he sings though...

Fred sounds a lot like walter sometimes though. There are times I really don't know who is who. I really like his voice with Heroes and Dragons, the Palantir, and... he does Lliusion, right? err... or is that walter... they sound rather similar sometimes, as I said before... and heaven! but I lvoe evryone in that song cuz that's the best! well... one of the best. I DON'T KNOW! IT'S TOO HARD TO DECIDE! AAHHH!

And Steve is mostly unmistakable especially with his good ol' Tennessee accent. hee hee! I really like Steve's vocals on Time Marches on, Elrenn and Endereth, Further Up and Futher In, and ESPECIALLY When We Were Young. Don't you think?

And there was an article that claimed "Neither Babb nor Schendel will ever be mistaken for a great singer"! My response to whoever wrote that: "Your article will never be mistaken as an intelligent opinion of glass hammer vocals." Hmph. So there. I am justified.

I don't like Brad's voice though. i just don't. He sounds whiney. Know what I mean? It works for Chronometree. But it wouldn't have worked for anything else. My favorite on Chronometree is probably Revalation/Chronometry and close second Empty Space/Revealer.

This is the million dollar question though: Who sings Science Fiction? Steve sings the refrain, I know that much. But what about the verses? Steve said Fred did, and Fred said that Steve was old and had just forgotten.

So... What do you think?

OK, it was not until I saw the video for TWTHH that I realized something: All these years I had their voices switched! I always thought Steve was the higher voice and Fred the bass. Just thought I'd share

Overall, I think I (Steve) do sing most of the high parts, and the really low ones too. Fred is a REALLY good 'high' baritone to 'low' tenor. On rare occasions we sing in unison and you can't tell that it isn't just one of us. Maybe the combination of voices should be given a name - like Freve or Stred. What do you think?

Ok, that sounds like a fine idea, but what happens then when it's Fred, Steve and another (ala Tales of The Great Wars)?

I had gotten fred and steve mixed up too! But then I emailed steve and he set me straight. mostly. I can tell steve and fred apart, at least, if not always fred and walter.

The only time I would ever sound remotely like Walter is if I'm singing behind him- he's wayyyyyyyyy better than I am!! The way to tell us apart is: I don't sound like I could sing for Kansas

I did sing Lliusion, btw. And I did not sing on the verses to Science Fiction- I have video to prove it!! you know what- not to just gratuitously blow our own horns, but I think Steve and I are getting a lot better as singers. We got our own little style going, ya know... I wish we could do Perelandra over again *lol*

Getting better? I should say so! Every album is so awesome (I'm talking only about vocally right now, but otherwise also, for the record)! But Lex Rex, especially... I know I've said this before, but I LOVE the blend of voices for that whole album!!! It's so cool!!! (the only thing that bothers me is when the voices are so blended you can't tell what they're singing - like in centurion).

And who needs Kansas anyway? Uh... Not that Kansas isn't awesome (cuz it is) or that its vocals aren't good (which they are), but I always thought the lead singer sounds kind of whiney. I don't like excessively whiney singers, in case you haven't noticed. Too much of him can get on my nerves. (except you can never have enough "Point of Know return" or "Nobody's Home". Same with "Closet Chronicles".) I like you way better as a vocalist anyway, Fred.

:)

And quite honestly, I still can't really tell you two apart.

I absolutely love how pure and clear Steves voice is on 'Heroes and Dragons'. *oops!*

I've been listening to that song alot as of late, its just an inspiring song.

Steve- your voice is sooo different when theres no vibrato in it- which is your voice naturally- for instance- my voice has a natural lite vibrato in it, which i have to control to make it go away.

I am happy to announce that after NEARfest I am not confused on any of the male vocalists. ...But I never got to hear Sarah or bethany very well, so they're a bit harder to distinguish. But I know Susie when I hear her! ... at least...
