Pre-ordered!
I thought pre-orders usually ship a little early. I'll have to wait a few extra days. Oh well.

Got it one day early! I wish I could go back in time and slap myself before posting that, haha!SpriteBat wrote:Pre-ordered!

Now it's time to go into isolation and listen to this.

Hope you like the new album. Be sure to let us know what you think!

One full listen yesterday, and one full listen today.
1st- Very good, but I felt like only certain parts sank in enough for me to understand it. I'm used to this by now; it happens with almost every GH album.
2nd- Even better than I initially thought! Much more of it sank in, and now I have my "favorite parts". A couple of the transitions could be more seamless in my opinion, but for the most part, it truly does seem like one epic piece. It branches out further than the last two albums without losing the signature sound we've all thoroughly enjoyed. I have a feeling I will get completely addicted to Perilous, but I'll try to pace myself to keep it fresh as long as possible.
Excellent work, guys!
Edit: 3rd full listen today. Really starting to understand and enjoy the entire thing. There are so many incredible moments! I think now I might take a short break from it so I can listen more when it gets colder. To me it seems like an album that you can't fully appreciate unless it's like 60° F. or below, and I live in Arizona, so...

Got my copy, but I won't have a chance to listen to it until the weekend. Until then...

Incredible....... Great Album. I have listened to it over twenty times...I lost count after that.
I cannot begin to make comments on what I like most. I can just suffice to say that musically and lyrically it spoke to me in a time of my life where some of the thoughts of where I have been, and where I am, I can relate.
Maybe I am off cue and missed the meaning of this album, but it is like someone who has been on a journey, and I am listening and say "hey...I know what you mean..."
Personally, I feel like time can pass us all by. If we do not make good choices or seize opportunities to take the right paths, those gates can shut.
It was nice to hear the string trio. Amber is incredible..... Jon's vocals of course are inspiring. You can hear in his voice the passion as when the light is there, you are uplifted.
The guitars are amazing. Alan blends in well with instrumental. I of course as always impressed with the arrangement of the bass and keyboards. You guys seem to reinvent yourself boldly here. Alan fits in this plan well.
I have not tried to drive with my eyes shut while driving and listening to this CD, but I have driven home, parked in the driveway and listen to the melodies. "The years were Sped" is just mesmerizing.

Re: Perilous to be released OCTOBER 23!!!!!
don't worry i was hooked on the first listen ... even if i was hanging out the washing. yep, doing my best peter gabriel impersonation (ala early genesis with the tambourine if you've ever see live dvd) while doing the washing - classic!Physicist wrote:I have only gotten in one listen, but I agree completely.shanocles wrote:AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!! funny thing is now i'm listening to it on laptop and for some reason inconsolable secret comes up as the next album, how darn good is that album when you haven't heard it in a while.
sheesh, glass hammer you're just the greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Perilous to be released OCTOBER 23!!!!!
After a number of listens, the album is even better. I have noticed a number echoes from previous albums, in both lyrics and music, but I need to listen more to remember the specifics.
I love the way Perilous closes out, with the contrast of In that Lonely Place to the previous tracks, and the brilliant crowning of Where Sorrows Died and Came No More.
All in all, another classic addition to the Glass Hammer library.

I heard the news about the vinyl. Is there going to be any other way to hear the 3 bonus songs?

yep, ditto to that!SpriteBat wrote:I heard the news about the vinyl. Is there going to be any other way to hear the 3 bonus songs?
also, as i was riding home from work last night listening to the new album.... i gots to thinking....
thought #1:
how cool is it Steve that you get to play alongside your guitar heroes like chris squire. have you met them before?(except for the last Yes concert when Jon got you backstage) Could Fred step in for a song if they (Yes) do 'south side of the sky'??
thought #2:
question that SpriteBat posed above
thought #3:
is the cruise ship gig gonna be recorded or filmed for purchase by us fans at a later date?
thought #4:
new album rocks!!!!
thought #5:
who's gonna play drums live .... Randall? does he even exist or is Fred going under a pseudonym cos it sure sounds a lot like Fred's drumming at times

thought #6:
is this the first time jon has fronted for GH live? will his stage presence/act be different from fronting Yes in any way (ie: plays along with acoustic or tambourine?)
thought #7:
are the gigs on the ship gonna be subdued ala MTV unplugged stuff or are you gonna blow that ship outta the water??
thought #8:
have you started thinking setlists yet?
thought #9:
how have you guys felt the new album has been received? how many sales compared to previous releases?
thought#10:
speaking of previous releases ... any more thoughts/news re: Inconsolable Secret 2.0??
sorry if any of the above has been talked about or answered on facebook, i'm not on it.
cheers,
shane.
